At A Gorfigliano and Verrucolette di Minucciano, in the province of Lucca, on Christmas Eve, a competition between neighbouring towns is held. The competition consists of building a tower (about 20 metres tall) of branches, trees and bushes. At the end of the contest, the most beautiful of the towers wins. The constructed tower, called ‘Nataleccio’, is burned in the evening .
The towns are both located in the area that faces toward the Serchio river, and Gorfigliano, the main town in the municipality of Minacciano, is set on the hills which enclose the valley of the Serchio and dominated by the majestic Monte Pisanino.
