As a part of the lively experience of the by now well-known Montecatini Summer festival, classical music concerts are offered which have become recognised as some of the best among those in Tuscany. The music season has a long-lasting period of activity in this town where eminent personalities from Italian classical music, such as Rossini, Verdi, Leoncavallo and Mascagni, were attracted to the spa.
The spa, which began its considerable success in the 15th century, is separate from the historical village of Montecatini Alto that sits 250 metres above the spa town and can be reached by funicular.
